Chicken breast

Chicken breast is easy to season and cooking, making it suitable for pasta recipes. It’s juicy and tender to make the dish enjoyable and appetizing.

Here’s why you should consider adding chicken breast to your spaghetti: it’s a rich source of lean protein, vitamins, minerals, and essential nutrients.

Use leftover chicken for side dishes such as Crispy Chicken Wings, Chicken Pizza, and Roast Chicken!

Contrary to many misconceptions about pasta, it’s a nutritious and affordable ingredient that can satisfy your cravings and nourish your body.

Seasoned pasta will taste magnificent once combined with perfectly cooked sauce and toppings! You will enjoy my One-Pot Spaghetti and Spaghetti Bolognese recipe if you love pasta.

The tomatoes can contribute to the color of the sauce and its sweet flavor too. It’s good for your skin and heart as well.

Meanwhile, red onions provide a subtle sweetness and a fragrant aroma to the spaghetti. Onions are loaded with vitamins and antioxidants that can help with bone density and digestion.

Bell peppers

On the other hand, mixed bell peppers add to the spaghetti sauce’s color, flavor, and texture. Using different kinds of bell peppers enriches the flavors of the sauce.

For the seasoning, I recommended mixed herbs, curry powder, turmeric, paprika, garlic powder, ginger powder, and sea salt for bold flavors to be infused in the pasta sauce. These spices can complement the natural flavor of the chicken too.

Scotch bonnet

An optional ingredient is the scotch bonnet which should only be used if you prefer to eat spaghetti with a bit of spice. Use coconut oil to sautee and cook the dish.

These ingredients are truly out-of-the-box ingredients when it comes to the usual spaghetti recipes but I can assure you that the final dish will be healthy, flavorful, and enjoyable!

  1. Sautee the onions with coconut oil in a frying pan over medium fire for 2 minutes.
  2. Add the diced chicken breast, sea salt, curry powder, mixed herbs, knorr cubes, chives, turmeric, paprika, garlic powder, ginger powder, and scotch bonnet.
  3. Fry for 5 minutes with occasional stirring using a spatula.
  4. Incorporate the chopped tomatoes and let this cook for 5 minutes until the tomatoes become soft.
  5. Toss in the chopped mixed bell peppers and let it simmer for 2 minutes.
  6. Then, put the spaghetti in the pan and mix it with the sauce.

How to Make Spaghetti Pasta

Pasta is always readily available in supermarkets, but why not upgrade your spaghetti dishes by making your pasta, right? It’s affordable, healthy, and easy to make!

  1. In a bowl, combine and mix 2 cups of all-purpose flour or gluten-free flour, three eggs, half a teaspoon of sea salt, and half a teaspoon of olive oil.
  2. Use your hands to fold the ingredients together until it becomes smooth dough.
  3. Knead the dough on a floured surface for at least 8 minutes.
  4. Then, divide the dough into portions and flatten each with a rolling pin.
  5. You can cut the dough portions using a pasta machine or simply use a knife or dough cutter to cut them into your desired size.
  6. Store the homemade pasta in an airtight container in the fridge for the day, or freeze it in a freezer bag to last up to a month!

How to Select Fresh Ingredients

  • For the onions, choose the ones that weigh heavily for their size.
  • The onions must have healthy-looking skin without any bruises or soft spots.
  • Ensure that the onions are firm to the touch.
  • These can easily be stored in cool and dry areas away from the sunlight.

  • Tomatoes should have bright orange or red skin with no bruises or cracks on the surface.
  • Smell the tomato around the stem to make sure that they are fresh.
  • They will continue to ripen at room temperature, so it’s best to use them as soon as possible.

Bell peppers

  • Meanwhile, for the mixed bell peppers, choose ones that are quite heavy for their size.
  • The colors should be vibrant, and the skin must be shiny and smooth.
  • Avoid bell peppers that look shriveled.
  • Bell peppers can be stored in a resealable bag in the fridge for up to a week.

To make this recipe vegan, you can replace the chicken with tofu, seitan, or beansprouts instead. The pasta is also not gluten-free, but you can use gluten-free flour to make your pasta or purchase gluten-free pasta in grocery stores.
