The taste of almonds may vary due to several factors, such as the variant and the storage, but almonds commonly taste either bitter, slightly bitter, or sweet.

Store-bought almonds are usually sweet, unlike natural and fresh almonds, which are bitter.

Almonds are loaded with nutrients and vitamins that are beneficial for managing your weight, cleansing your skin, strengthening your bones, and improving your overall well-being. It’s perfect for persons with dairy allergies or lactose intolerance.

Vanilla extract

The scent of vanilla extract is distinct; from the smell itself, you will be able to tell that it tastes sweet and sugary with a hint of jasmine.

Tips

How to Select Almonds

Almonds can be bought in the shell or shelled. Shelled almonds are best for roasting, balancing, and raw eating or blending. You can buy them whole, sliced, or even diced.

If you don’t have a lot of time, feel free to buy the prechopped almonds, but if you want fresher almonds, it’s best to go for the whole almonds.

There is no need to worry about the skin because it can actually add more flavor, aroma, and character to the milk!

How to Store Almonds

For raw almonds, keep them in their original packaging and place them in a cool and dark place – this way, they can last up to two years.

Once the package is opened, transfer the almonds into an airtight container or resealable plastic bag and store them in a dry and cool place – this method can make almonds last up to three months. The earlier you use them, the better.

Close the lid of the container tightly because containers that are left ajar can lead to insect infestation of the almonds. Exposing the almonds can also affect their flavor and odor.

How to Make Almond Milk Without a Blender

No blender? No problem! There’s an alternative way to make almond milk without a blender. It will take more time and effort, but it will still taste yummy either way.

After soaking the almonds overnight, drain the water, and manually remove the skin from each almond. Then, use a mortar and pestle to break the almonds apart.

Once you have ground almonds, you can incorporate filtered water, vanilla extract, and sea salt. Mix them together until you see that the water has turned white.

Strain the mixture using a sieve, cheesecloth, or nutmilk bag, and you have almond milk!
