Yam flour

There’s definitely a reason why yam rhymes with yum!

The secret to making the best Amala Fele Fele is using yam flour. It is a starchy powder popularly used for African swallow recipes.

The flour is made of dried yams which contain only 100 calories per serving. Most importantly, it’s cholesterol-free and gluten-free yet high in protein and other nutrients.

  • Yam flour is loaded with fiber so it will help with your digestion and metabolism.
  • Finelib mentioned that yam flour is also good for your eyes and immunity.
  • It can regulate your cholesterol levels to keep your heart healthy.

When it comes to flavor, you will taste a mix of nutty, smoky, and earthy tones that will pair well with savory soups and stews. You can also use it for sweet dishes like desserts and snacks.

Water is needed to make the dish lump-free and smooth. It also breaks down the clumps of yam flour for a soft and plump texture. Moreover, the water makes the mixture easier to stir and thicken!

Once you mix it in the yam flour, it will give the dish a thick, smooth, sticky, and lump-free quality.
