How to Make Chicken Gizzard Stew

This is so delicious that you will probably forget your name even at the first bite! I’ll tell you everything you need to know, from the ingredients to the steps you need to remember.

You might be surprised at how simple it is to cook Chicken Gizzard Stew!

Ingredients

Check out this list of ingredients you will need to cook this stew:

Chicken gizzards

Did you know that chicken gizzards are part of the stomach of the chicken? They may be tiny parts, but they are also loaded with tremendous flavor.

The chicken gizzards may remind you of dark chicken meat, especially once you discover how chewy the texture is. You can buy these at your local butcher shop at very low prices.

Health Benefits

  • According to Live Strong, chicken gizzards can help with your weight loss goals because they can make you feel full for a longer time.
  • These can also give you stronger muscles and bones.
  • Chicken gizzards also have nutrients to prevent certain types of cancer.

It’s not the usual drumstick or chicken breast, but it is divine! Aside from using it for stew, I also suggest cooking Fried Chicken Gizzard for a chewy and delicious meal.

Yellow bell peppers

Are they fruits or vegetables? Hmm. You’re right; they’re actually fruits! These bell peppers are juicy, fruity, and sweet in flavor. If you want to have a clear vision, healthy skin, and quality sleep, then don’t miss out on yellow bell peppers.

The yellow bell peppers will also add a pop of color to the stew. You can also eat them raw or grill or roast them to release their rich flavor.

Onion

Oftentimes, you just need to add a bit of onion for a classic savory taste. Moreover, the stew should have onions for a touch of sweetness and spice.

I also use onions for other soups and stews like Okra Soup, Red Bream Stew, and Assorted Meat Stew!

Garlic

Where there are onions, there must also be garlic! This also contributes a unique yet extraordinary flavor that makes the dish irresistibly delicious.

If you love garlic, then you can also make Garlic-Infused Oil to make your meals taste better.

Ginger

I always use ginger with chicken gizzards because it gives the dish a fragrant aroma. Once sauteed into the chicken, you will notice that the ginger can give the dish a certain flare to it.

Aside from adding them to dishes, you can also use these for drinks such as Lemon Ginger Cubes, Pineapple Ginger Juice Cleanse, and Apple Ginger Juice!

Herbs and spices

Seasoning can certainly bring life to a dish; hence, this recipe uses the rich flavors of curry powder, mixed herbs, stock cubes, and sea salt. Simple ingredients as they are, these can still elevate the cooking you do.

Sunflower oil

The Stew will take time to cook. Hence, sunflower oil’s high smoke point will enrich the dish’s overall quality as it cooks.

Indeed, a peculiar and tasteful dish doesn’t have to be complicated at all! Relishing the rich flavors of different cuisines can surely make life worth loving and food worth enjoying!

Directions

Now, it’s time to transform chicken gizzards into the most delicious stew!

  1. Rinse and slice the bell peppers into small pieces using a knife.

Tips

Chicken Gizzards

Selection
  • Chicken gizzards are readily available in the meat section of grocery stores.
  • They may be packaged in plastic or styrofoam.
  • Moreover, always check the best-by date for freshness.
  • As suggested by All Recipes, ask if the chicken gizzards have already been cleaned.
  • Choose ones with bright brown color with a thick crust.
  • Avoid pre-seasoned gizzards because they already contain harmful preservatives.

Cleaning
  • Store-bought fresh gizzards are usually pre-cleaned.
  • Rinse the gizzard and place it on a clean cutting board.
  • Slice it in a lengthwise direction to get two separate pieces.
  • Rinse out the interior of the gizzard, which contains the membrane.
  • Use your fingers to clean it over running water.
  • Carefully trim the excess lining for a pristine gizzard that’s ready to cook!
Storage
  • After cleaning the gizzard, pat the pieces dry with a kitchen towel and distribute them in a container.
  • It can only sit out at room temperature for up to two hours.
  • You can also refrigerate it to last up to two days or freeze it to last up to several weeks.

Yellow Bell Peppers

Selection
  • The bell peppers should have brightly colored, shiny, and firm skin.
  • They should also yield to a bit of pressure.
  • The stems should also be in a healthy green color.
  • Those that feel heavy for their size will make amazing ingredients for this dish.
Storage
  • Whole bell peppers can be left at room temperature for up to a week.
  • To prolong shelf life, refrigerate the unwashed fruits in a slotted resealable bag. Spread them out evenly.
  • Keep them away from fruits to prevent rotting.
  • Discard soggy and wrinkled bell peppers or those with molds and slimy consistency.

Chicken Gizzard Stew Variations

You can omit or add other ingredients to your liking and diet preferences. For example, remove the scotch bonnet for a milder spicy flavor in the stew.

You can also make this recipe with other parts of a chicken as long as you take note of the cooking time of the parts you will use. I suggest using chicken breasts or wings to cook this dish too.

To make this dish vegan, you can also make use of tofu or other vegetarian substitutes for meat. Also, use vegetable stock instead of meat stock for a fully vegan version of the stew.
