Cherries

Cherries are a tasty summer fruit that people love because they are juicy and look pretty. Many types of cherries can be sweet or sour. You can find them in stores mainly in July.

When buying cherries, look for big, shiny ones with attached stems. They should be dark red and firm but not too hard. Pale cherries are usually sweet, and dark ones are sour, but it’s best to try them first to see which kind you like.

To prepare cherries for eating, remove the stems and use a special tool to remove the pits if you need a lot for a recipe.

If you want to keep cherries fresh, put them in the fridge without washing them. Then, wash them right before you eat them. You can also freeze cherries to keep them longer.

Sweet cherries are good to eat independently, while sour cherries are great for making desserts like tarts, pies, and sauces.
