Porridge Recipe: Green Plantain

  • 1 plantain (large)
  • cups water (see note 1)
  • 2 tbsp maple syrup


  • Peel and slice the plantain into pieces with a knife.
  • Use a blender to puree it with water until smooth. 
  • Then, pour water into a pot.
  • Let it boil over medium heat.
  • Add in the pureed plantains.
  • Continuously stir it with a spatula to prevent lumps.
  • Let it cook until it thickens to your desired consistency.
  • Then, reduce it to low heat before.
  • Season the porridge with maple syrup.
  • Once done, pour the contents into a bowl to serve and enjoy!



  • If you don’t have a blender, grate, and steam the green plantains before mashing.
  • Stir it continuously as you cook to prevent lumps in the porridge.
  • Adjust the water as you prefer.
